The Story of Seeker

Seeker Solutions is a software development firm focused on bringing order to the textual chaos created by our access to exploding information.

Founded in 2006 by CEO Duncan MacRae and based in Victoria, BC, Seeker Solutions has identified how we can use natural language information retrieval to access information in a more effective way. MacRae's original goal was to provide personalized news retrieval – custom fit for the news needs of individual users. By studying the ways in which people and technology interact, he discovered the potential to solve the larger challenge of information overload.

MacRae was inspired by technology that gathered news from thousands of different sources, mapped those relationships and then linked them to an individual's needs. Instead of having to comb through hundreds of blogs and news sites for an article worth reading, the technology would do it for them. The essential idea is to use Natural Language Processing to retrieve and analyze text by asking questions and getting answers. MacRae’s curiosity started the company and curiosity is a prized individual attribute. Every Seeker team member knows they are part of an organization that not only strives to make a profit but to introduce change in a way that will be positive. A company with a philosophy of doing business with integrity is not new but can be a rare find. The team can be proud of their work, knowing they are encouraged to do good while maintaining a balanced life.

Seeker is still based in Victoria and has grown to over 35 dedicated and passionate team members working on research, quality assurance and development for a select client group.
